About this Tumblr
Mindfulness in Plain English is a simple, practical introduction to mindfulness meditation for beginners. As a meditator, I have found this book to be a coherent and uncomplicated explanation that helped me develop my own meditation practice.
I am sharing the full text of the book here for the benefit of the Tumblr community, as permitted by the book’s distribution agreement. My only editing has been to divide the text into smaller Tumblr-friendly posts to be released daily over several weeks for those who follow this Tumblr. This should be helpful for those who wish a daily guide for developing a meditation practice.
The site will also contain a table of contents, and links that will allow you to read through the full text in sequence. This is the only post that I will make myself. Everything else comes directly from the book.
Please let me remind you — as I often have to remind myself — that reading about meditation is not the same as meditating. The guidance in this book will be helpful only if you actually put it into practice. Sit quietly for at least 10 minutes every day, and explore the benefits of the practice for yourself. Return to the book when you are looking for inspiration, further guidance, or help with the inevitable difficulties that will arise from time to time.
